Who we are
MFA Tools ("we", "us") is an independent resource website at mfatools.net that publishes software guides, tool roundups, and tutorials. You can read more about the site on our About page. For anything in this policy, you can reach us at hello@mfatools.net.
What data we collect
MFA Tools is a static website. We do not run user accounts, comment systems, or forums, and we never ask for passwords or payment details. The data we handle falls into three small categories:
1. Analytics data
Like most websites, we use privacy-conscious analytics to understand which pages are read and how visitors find us. This typically includes your approximate location (country/region level), device and browser type, pages visited, time on page, and the site that referred you. We do not use analytics to identify you personally, and we do not build advertising profiles.
2. Newsletter email address
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the email address you provide so we can send you the occasional roundup you asked for. That is the only thing we use it for. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address from the sending list.
3. Messages you send us
If you email us or use our contact form, we receive whatever you choose to send — typically your name, email address, and message — and use it only to reply and, where relevant, to correct our content.
Cookies and local storage
We keep cookies to a minimum:
- Preference storage. Your theme choice (light or dark) is saved in your browser's local storage so the site looks the same on your next visit. This never leaves your device.
- Analytics cookies. Our analytics provider may set cookies or similar identifiers to distinguish visits. You can block these in your browser settings or with an extension without breaking the site.
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies of our own. Third-party content embedded on a page (if any) may set its own cookies, governed by that provider's policies.
Third-party services
To run the site we rely on a small number of third parties, each of which processes limited data on our behalf:
- Hosting — our web host serves the pages you request and keeps standard server logs (IP address, requested URL, timestamp) for security and reliability.
- Analytics — an analytics provider processes the usage data described above.
- Email delivery — if you subscribe, a newsletter provider stores your email address and delivers the emails.
Links on MFA Tools often lead to third-party websites (for example, the official sites of the software we cover). Once you leave mfatools.net, their privacy policies apply — not this one.
What we never do
- We never sell your personal data to anyone.
- We never share your email address with advertisers or data brokers.
- We never ask for your passwords, account credentials, or payment information.
Legal bases for processing
Where data-protection law requires a stated basis, ours are: legitimate interest (understanding site usage through aggregate analytics and keeping the site secure), consent (the newsletter — you subscribe voluntarily and can withdraw at any time), and responding to messages you send us (steps taken at your request).
Data retention
Analytics data is retained in aggregate form for trend analysis. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up, then deleted.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR in the EEA/UK and state privacy laws such as the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to:
- request a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent (for example, unsubscribe from the newsletter) at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@mfatools.net with "Privacy request" in the subject line. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe. Because we collect so little data, most requests are quick to resolve.
Children's privacy
MFA Tools is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and access to the small amount of data we hold (newsletter list, inbox) is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we keep our data footprint small precisely so there is little to protect.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be flagged on the site. The version in force is always the one published here.
